Gillian is a flight attendant and Jake is a pilot. But this story is nothing like you would expect. The timeline skips from the past to the present and hooks you from the outset. The structure is just sublime and the author treats her readers like grown-ups who can think for themselves and don’t need to be spoon fed everything. This book is just fabulous. It’s twisty, turny, angsty, hot, humorous and unputdownable. It’s got flawed heroes and even more flawed villains. I’ve never been a good sleeper, reliant on chamo I’ve never been a good sleeper, reliant on chamomile, epsom salts, lavender, nytol and voodoo to have a passable night’s sleep. When I started writing in earnest, my ideas decided that sleep was a waste of time and would wake me throughout the night until I finally gave in and got up. The four months it took to draft my first two books was achieved by waking up between four and four thirty every morning, staggering out of bed and flipping open the laptop. On most of those days I had written a couple of thousand words by breakfast. ⠀ Now I’m writing every day and my ideas still wake me up. I try to stay asleep, but they get me in my dreams, weaving themselves into the narrative and tugging at my conscious mind. I’m fully awake by five am mornings and it’s a miracle if I sleep past six. But having so many ideas is also a comfort. I know I’m not going to run out of books to write any time this millenium. Thinking about them is a lovely way to daydream when I’m driving or standing in a queue, but also a wonderful procrastination technique when I should be writing something else.
